Our Going Green Commitment

Stockton Products is fully committed to doing our part to protect the environment through the intelligent use of recyclable materials and processes. Each of the Stockton facilities follows its local government program policies and guidelines for energy efficiency and green practices.

I. Individual Responsibility and Our Workplace

Paper and Waste

  • Utilizing paper - We cut Stockton's copy paper usage in half by printing daily reports and most paperwork on the blank side of used copy paper.
  • Recycling disposables - At Stockton we recycle all plastic bottles and cans and other disposable products. All paper files that we no longer need to keep are shredded regularly and recycled.
  • Electronic filing - Stockton is moving towards an electronic filing system starting with our period-end-reports.
  • Smart printing - We always think twice before printing and use both sides of a page. Our outgoing emails remind recipients to consider the environment before printing.
  • Reducing waste - Everyone at Stockton is encouraged to bring their own coffee or water cups to work to eliminate use of paper, styrofoam and plastic
  • Recycled paper products - We use copy paper that is 30% recycled.

Equipment

  • Retired office machines - We recycle all computers, printers and fax machines that are not serviceable.
  • Printing and faxing - At Stockton, we use recycled toner and drums for all fax machines and printers. We return the toner cartridges and drums for recycling when they are empty.
  • Batteries - Our company policy is to recycle all batteries and to recycle obsolete cell phones and their batteries.
  • Eliminating phantom energy waste - All of our fax machines, copiers and printers have a "sleep" mode to cut down on wasted energy when they are not being used.

Environment

  • Energy efficient lighting - All of our plants and offices use compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. The Department of Energy endorses CFLs which use 75% less energy and last about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb.
  • Natural lighting - The skylights and windows in our facilities and offices make good use of natural light.
  • Motion detector lighting - We have automatic sensors to shut off lights in our some of our facilities and offices. Where we do not have these sensors in place, we are sure to turn off all lights when leaving a room.
  • Water conservation and low maintenance grounds - Because our manufacturing facilities are located in dry and even desert climates, we are careful about our water usage. All of our exterior trees, shrubs, cacti and grasses are native to the area, drought resistant and consume less water.
  • Cool roofs - Four of our five facilities have white roofs enabling us to significantly decrease our air-conditioning needs. Cool roofs reduce air conditioning costs by 20% or more in hot, sunny weather. Lower energy consumption also means fewer of the carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to global warming. ("White Roofs Catch On as Energy Cost Cutters" The New York Times July 29, 2009)
  • Flexible hours - The bulk of our manufacturing occurs during the cooler hours of the day.

II. Our Supply Chain

Materials and Processes

  • Recycled raw material - We use recycled raw material -- steel wire is 30% recycled and our aluminum is 95% recycled. (If possible, may I get percentages for how much of raw copper, steel and zinc is recybled?) Our plastic beading that is used to prevent rust is recycled (Yes or no? Percentage?) Our packaging cardboard is all recycled product and recycled after use.
  • Proximity of manufacturing plants and jobsites - Our products are available from five locations in the United States helping to reduce the environmental impact of transportation from our plants to jobsites. The majority of our product is shipped within 500 miles of the facility in which it was manufactured.
  • Scrap recycling - 100% of manufactured waste from our raw steel, copper, zinc and aluminum is recycled.
  • Water recycling - We have always recycled the water we use in our manufacturing processes. The water that cools our welding machines is 100% recycled through circulating tanks. In addition, the water that runs through our swamp coolers is 100% recycled in all facilities.
  • Green packaging - At Stockton, we use only recycled cardboard for packaging needs. We recycle all the wood blocks and metal straps that come with our raw material shipments.

III. Alternative Sources and Energy Savings

Renewable Energy

  • Solar panels - Two of our facilities are powered by solar panels that are capable of producing 50,000 KW per hour. (Note for Dave in LVM, I wrote down that so far for '09 we have produced 74.52 MWh or 74,500 KWh - and the panels are capable of producing 50,000KW per hour. Did I get that right? Note for Brian - info on BB's solar panels...). We produce an annual average of x MWh per year between the two facilities. Savings of -- ?

HVAC Systems

  • Equipment - All of our HVAC systems and swamp coolers are less than seven years old.
